Den trees are those trees with holes in them that sometimes make you wonder, “How did that happen?” In a word, fungus. When a tree experiences an insect attack, a lightning strike, or anything that causes damage, the fungus gets to work creating a cavity that’s used by wildlife as shelter. Cavities can range in size from 3 feet to less than an inch.
